The Power of Positive Affirmations
Hi Gorgeous! This week we’re diving into the power of positive affirmations. We here at the Fabulous Planner believe in the power of planning, but some times you need a little something more. There comes a time where you have to provide yourself with a little self care. One way to take care of yourself is to practice reshaping your thoughts with positive affirmations. We live in a negative world and it’s easy to fall into that rut! Positive affirmations help take us out of the negativity that brings us down.
Let’s start with how to create positive affirmations. First, access your negative self talk, what are the things that pop up in your mind thorough the day or week? For example, “UGH, I’m such a failure, I can never get everything done”. Once you’ve settled on the negatives you want to flip, you will word them in a positive, opposite manner. You’ll want to keep these statements short and simple. As well as, begin with “I” or “My”. Avoid saying “I want” or “I need”. You’re going to be repeating these statements throughout the day, so make sure they are written in the present tense in a similar manner to the example below.
Now that we have created our affirmations, how will we utilize them? The most common way, is to repeat them throughout your day. Think of this as a form of meditation or a few moments to check in with yourself. Start off with repeating your affirmations twice a day for a few minutes at a time. The key is to make sure you are being consistent, so make a plan and stick with it. Another way to utilize them is to put them around common places you visit, such as a vanity, in your car, in your phone etc. You want to be revisiting these words to give them the power to reshape your thoughts.
Another thing I like to do, is when the affirmations don’t seem to be working, take some time to yourself and journal on it. Ask yourself the important questions. Why is this true? Why is this important to me? Does my affirmation need to be worded differently? You can be surprised by the insight you gain from a bit of journaling!
